"Ship to Gaza" is an initiative for practical solidarity with the civic population in Gaza. The organization is independent of any religion or political parties, and works for the aim that international law will count also on the Gaza strip.
This Year we are working together with the Swdish branch of Ship to Gaza. They are sending a ship named "Estelle" to Gaza. Before reaching Gaza the ship will visit many countries. Read more about "Estelle"'s visit to Norway (august 1.-11.).
Ship to Gaza Norway (STGN) has been working with the Freedom Flotilla coalition to send boats with necessary building-, medical- and school materials to Gaza both in 2010 and in 2011. The two Freedom Flotilla projects got a lot of media attention and have helped ease the siege a bit, but our boats were brutally stopped by Israeli forces, and never reached the ports of Gaza. Nevertheless we will not give up our goal, and our goal is to brake the siege of Gaza!
This year (2012) the focus of our project is a little bit altered. We experience that the people of Gaza prefer making it on their own, rather than being dependent on constant help from the outside world. For this, the possibility to export their goods is extremely important. That is why one part of the Freedom Flotilla 2012 will send boats to Gaza emptyhanded, and try to take goods out of Gaza instead. Because the seige on Gaza is as effective on blocking exports as it is hidering import, we believe this part of the situation should be known and dealt with.
There are many ideas and plans that will be formed during this spring. More information will be provided as soon as the concrete plans are set.
Follow us in our exciting projects! Help us brake the siege of Gaza!
In Europe we will be working on sending the beautiful boat "Estelle" from Scandinavia to Gaza through several ports in other European countries. We will try to gain a lot of attention and put political pressure on European governments to help us lift the siege. The Canadian, American and Australian initiatives are working on a project called "Gaza's Ark", which will be working on building a boat inside Gaza to fill with local products to trade with European countries. While we will be confronting the siege by going in, they will be challenging the siege by going out. Ship to Gaza Norway gives its support to both projects, but focuses its resources on the "Estelle"-project.
